My Story of Faith

I am a survivor of abuse and from a young age, I knew what was happening to me was wrong.  At 14 I attempted to end my suffering by swallowing a bottle of pills.   I lay on my bed waiting...but then I cried out "God I don't want to die."  Suddenly my room was filled with a brilliant light and a blanket of love enveloped me.  And then I heard a voice. "It will not end, but I will never leave you."    My son, John, was also a victim of clergy abuse. He served Our Lady faithfully for over ten years, working tirelessly to share her message through my musical The Miracle of Fatima. But he did not survive the effects of that abuse. When he died, I lost my faith completely. I felt abandoned, as if God had turned His face from me. But one year later—on John’s birthday, June 14, 2017, something extraordinary happened one mile from my house. At Saint Anne’s Church, the National Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima was being presented. I went, still heartbroken. And there, I heard Her voice in the depths of my soul:  “I lost my son as well.” In that moment, the Mother of God met me in my pain. She didn’t erase my suffering - she shared it. And hope began to take root again. And once again, I felt called to use my gifts as a writer and composer to share her message of faith, hope, and healing. That calling became two works: Blessed is Her Name — the story of Mary’s life, her strength, and her “yes” to God’s plan. And A Matter of Faith — a modern story about a man named Randolph Swoops, who loses his faith when his prayers to save his wife go unanswered. Twenty years later, his son brings The Miracle of Fatima musical to his theater. In the midst of that production, the spirits of the three Fatima children appear and lead him deep into the Fatima message… and it transforms him forever. Randolph’s journey is my journey. And perhaps, it is yours too. We all know what it feels like to be abandoned, to question God’s goodness. But God’s love is constant, His mercy is endless, and hope is always possible. Today, I’m also taking a step of faith. We are preparing to film the pilot for A Matter of Faith as a limited TV series. A New York production company is ready to go—we simply need to raise the capital. I’ve seen God work in this way before. Years ago, when we were recording The Miracle of Fatima cast album, one man heard about it and asked, “What do you need?” The day before we were to begin recording - our bank account was near zero. The day of the recording, the producer and director were literally yelling at me, “Where’s the money?” And I kept talking about faith. They rolled their eyes and walked away. I grabbed my phone, went online, and saw it—$60,000 - the entire amount needed had been wired into our account. No contract. No conditions. Just faith meeting faith. So if you choose to purchase an audiobook or eBook today - whether Blessed is Her Name or A Matter of Faith, you won’t just be enjoying a story. You’ll be helping bring a message of hope and healing to the screen for the world to see. I believe it will happen. Because when we act in faith, God moves. Thank you and may God bless you.
